RAMAT GAN, Israel and REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (Dec. 16, 2002) - SofaWare Technologies, a Check Point™ Software Technologies (Nasdaq: CHKP) company, today made the delivery of comprehensive security services more affordable and easier to deploy for service providers and value-added resellers (VARs). Through the combination of SofaWare's new Safe@ 3.0 Internet security software, which powers leading security appliances, and the company's Security Management Portal (SMP), VARs and service providers deliver subscription-based security services including advanced firewall service, managed VPN, content filtering, email anti-virus and remote monitoring. These services improve customer retention and open new revenue opportunities for SofaWare's customers.
Managed security services remains a growing market opportunity for resellers and service providers of all sizes. According to research from IDC released in February 2002, the U.S. market for managed security services will grow from $720 million to $2.2 billion from 2000-2005, a compound annual growth rate of 25.4 percent. IDC also stated that it believes the most apparent opportunities for managed security service providers (MSSPs) are within the small to medium-sized business market, where customers have strong security needs, but limited information security skills and resources (1). Many service providers are already jumping into the market using a SofaWare's comprehensive security service platform.
"Our managed services take the burden of day-to-day security concerns off our customer's shoulders, freeing them to address issues more in-line with their core business," said Tyler Salisbury, President of Webfargo Data Security, a Research Triangle-based member of the SofaWare Partner Alliance. "The benefit of the SofaWare solution is its cost and ease of deployment. In order for our customers to embrace managed services, we need to keep our overhead costs low and deploy a service that is cutting-edge, yet very simple to use and maintain. SofaWare is delivering that solution."
SofaWare's SMP manages all Safe@ appliances, helping service providers deliver managed services to customers that range from the home user all the way to multi-site businesses. SofaWare's SMP is easier to use than competitive management systems. SMP requires only simple installation on any PC to enable a VAR or service provider to manage up to thousands of users and gateways and to deliver new subscription services. SofaWare has taken Check Point Software's market-leading VPN-1®/FireWall-1® software, and made it available, affordable and easy to use for small businesses and consumers via Safe@ appliances. By making enterprise-grade security software available on a wide range of appliances, modems and routers, SofaWare gives service providers, VARs, and their customers a choice of powerful gateway security products.
"We understand in order for a reseller or service provider to drive revenue from subscription services and add new offerings to their portfolio, they need to get good margins from the services, have a broad product portfolio from which to choose, and be able to quickly and easily train their existing staff on how to manage the services for their customers," said Adi Ruppin, founder and managing director of SofaWare. "SofaWare provides customers with more than a half-dozen appliance partners with whom to work, and with SMP, we slash operating costs by minimizing employee training time, reducing service implementation time and limiting monthly service maintenance times to only a few minutes each month."
SofaWare's Safe@ 3.0 Internet security software features significant new additions that simplify the management of Safe@ security appliances, including:
- Time-limited Subscription Definitions Subscription service characteristics, such as subscription period, can be set remotely, a feature requirement important for a subscription services-based business
- New License Management VAR or service provider can centrally manage the license and services of its customers' Safe@ appliances, easily and cost-effectively scaling the products in the field to meet customer needs
- Enhanced Service Provider/VAR Management Service providers or resellers now have full remote control over all the configuration attributes available to the end user, making the support process easy
- HTTPS Remote Management Safe@ appliances can be remotely and securely configured from anywhere via the Web
- New Batch Management Capabilities For large deployments, it is now possible to import and manage many thousands of users
